If you are looking for a taxi to Gatwick from High Wycombe, the first thing worth knowing is this: there is no direct train. Not one. Whatever combination you pick, you are changing at least twice, and at least one of those changes involves crossing London with your luggage.
That single fact changes the maths on how you get there, and it is the reason a lot of our Gatwick bookings come from people who tried the train once and decided never again.
What the train journey actually looks like
The usual route is Chiltern Railways from High Wycombe into London Marylebone, then across the capital by Underground to London Victoria or London Bridge, then Gatwick Express or a Southern or Thameslink service down to the airport. Journey planners put the average end-to-end time at around two hours and ten minutes, with the very fastest connections closer to one hour forty. Advance tickets start somewhere around £22 per person.
Those numbers look reasonable on a screen. In practice you need to add the bits the planner does not count:
- Getting yourself and your bags to High Wycombe station and parking, or paying for a taxi to the station anyway
- Hauling a suitcase through Marylebone and onto the Bakerloo or Circle line at rush hour
- The buffer you have to build in, because if you miss one connection the whole chain slips
- A second fare for every person travelling with you
A family of four on advance tickets is already close to £90 before anyone has bought a coffee, and that assumes nobody needs a walk-up fare.
What the taxi costs

When the train genuinely wins
We are not going to pretend the taxi is always the answer. If you are travelling alone, with hand luggage only, in the middle of a weekday, and you are relaxed about timing, the train is cheaper and perfectly pleasant. If you are already going to be in central London that morning, picking up the Gatwick Express from Victoria makes obvious sense.
The taxi wins when you have bags, when you are travelling as a group, when your flight is early or lands late, and when the cost of missing it is a great deal more than the fare.
The early and late flights problem
Gatwick runs a lot of departures that want you at the terminal for five or six in the morning. Work backwards from that and you need to leave High Wycombe somewhere around half past three. There is no train at half past three. There is also nothing running when you land back at midnight and the last Chiltern service has long gone.

Give us your flight number when you book and we track the arrival. If you land forty minutes early, the car moves forty minutes early. If you are stuck on a tarmac somewhere, we know about it and the driver is not sitting there running up a waiting charge for a delay that was never yours.
Tell us at the time of booking if you would rather be met inside the terminal at arrivals than picked up from the pick-up area — it is worth doing if you are travelling with children, with a lot of luggage, or with anyone who would rather not go looking for a car park.
